In a dramatic escalation of the NEET student death investigation, Patna police conducted a high-profile raid on the residence of former IPS officer Amitabh Das on Friday evening. The operation targeted allegations that Das had posted misleading and inflammatory content on social media regarding the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant from Jehanabad at Shambhu Girls Hostel in Patna.
Heavy police contingents from Pataliputra and Chitragupta Nagar stations descended upon Das’s apartment in Patna Skyz Apartments, Pataliputra Colony. The raid comes amid mounting scrutiny over Das’s public statements and online posts that authorities claim are interfering with the ongoing probe. The case, registered as FIR 44/26 at Chitragupta Nagar police station, has been transferred to the CBI, adding layers of complexity.
Police have been monitoring Das’s activity across platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter). Officials believe his posts are not only misleading but also capable of influencing witnesses and derailing the investigation into the girl’s mysterious demise near AIIMS Golambar.
During the raid, officers seized several documents from the premises. Amitabh Das, speaking to reporters, asserted that he was en route to Delhi to hand over crucial evidence directly to the CBI Director. He alleged attempts on his life and vowed to cooperate fully with central investigators, dismissing the police action as timed to prevent his trip.
This development underscores the tensions between retired officers vocal on social media and law enforcement in high-stakes cases. As the CBI takes the reins, questions linger about the role of public commentary in sensitive investigations. Patna police maintain the raid was essential to safeguard the integrity of the probe, with further actions anticipated based on findings.
