In a case that has gripped Bihar, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the mysterious death of a NEET aspirant in Patna has wrapped up its initial inquiry. On Friday, the team submitted a comprehensive report to the state’s Director General of Police (DGP), detailing an exhaustive review of over 40 CCTV footages and interrogations of more than 15 individuals.
The tragedy unfolded at Shambhu Girls Hostel in Patna’s Chitragupt Nagar area, where the student from Jehanabad’s Patiyawa village breathed her last on January 11 under suspicious circumstances. Chaos erupted immediately, with opposition parties slamming the Nitish Kumar government and demanding answers. Under mounting pressure, authorities swiftly formed the SIT to unearth the truth.
Investigators scoured footage from the hostel, hospitals, the railway station, and the victim’s family home in Jehanabad. Every clip was meticulously analyzed and compiled into a pen drive for evidence. Key persons questioned included the student’s family, relatives, hostel staff, and notably, three close acquaintances who were later released.
The postmortem report added chilling layers to the mystery. It revealed multiple severe injuries: nail scratches on the right side of her neck, dried blood crusts, puncture marks on veins, and bruises across her left arm, knees, chest, and backāsome fresh, others older. Most alarmingly, injuries near private parts suggested possible assault, raising fears of foul play.
While the SIT’s report outlines all interrogations and findings so far, the full picture awaits AIIMS review and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) results. Hospitals visited by the student have been probed separately, with footage from key locations preserved.
As Bihar watches closely, the DGP’s office holds the key to what comes next in this haunting saga of a young dream shattered too soon.
