The sanctity of marriage is often disregarded by some individuals. A man in Patna, India, is now under scrutiny after marrying eight times. The abuse of his eighth wife brought to light his history of multiple marriages. Had the violence not occurred, his current wife might never have discovered his past.

The incident took place in Anisabad, near Patna. A female journalist married Rakesh Kumar, a shopkeeper, in December 2024. After the marriage, Rakesh began to abuse his wife, leading her to seek help from a local panchayat. This is when the truth about Rakesh’s previous seven marriages was revealed. Subsequently, the wife filed a complaint with the police, alleging their lack of action.

The victim then turned to the Women’s Commission for assistance. When her husband failed to appear for a hearing, the commission wrote to the SP, requesting an investigation by the relevant police station. The victim stated that she married Rakesh Kumar from Mohania, Kaimur, on December 14, 2024. She moved into his home the next day.

    **Abuse Begins Quickly**
The woman claimed that she was abused starting from the second day of her stay at his home. On January 12, 2024, an attempt was made to harm her. This led to a village panchayat, during which the villagers revealed Rakesh’s seven previous marriages.

**Case Lodged in Mohania Police Station**
The victim, upon learning about her husband’s prior marriages, filed a case at the Mohania police station, but no action was taken. Seeking justice, she has now approached the Bihar State Women’s Commission. The victim is a trained journalist. Apsara, the chairperson of the Bihar State Women’s Commission, stated that Rakesh Kumar was summoned twice, but he did not appear. The commission scheduled hearings for July 14 and August 4, but he was absent. The Women’s Commission has now written to the Kaimur SP, and the case is ongoing.
