In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Bihar’s capital, two brothers were brutally shot dead during a wedding reception in Patna’s Gopalpur area late Sunday night. The brazen attack unfolded in Shahpur village, where Manish Kumar and Manjeet Kumar, sons of Raj Kishore Rai, fell victim to a hail of bullets right after stepping out from the party.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of utter chaos as approximately 20 rounds were fired indiscriminately at the siblings. Manish, the eldest of three brothers, died on the spot, while the youngest, Manjeet, succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital. Both were involved in property dealing, a business that may have intersected with the motives behind this heinous crime.
The reception was for Vicky, son of Daulat Ram, and the brothers had attended as guests. Reports suggest a heated argument broke out during the event between the victims and the accused, after which tensions simmered until the fatal ambush outside. As the brothers emerged post-dinner, gunmen lying in wait unleashed their fury, turning a joyous occasion into a bloodbath.
Local sources point to a deep-seated land dispute as the trigger. For over 40 years, the family has been locked in a battle over six acres with fellow villagers, known as patidars. Just five months ago, the court ruled in favor of Manish’s family, a decision that allegedly fueled the revenge plot. Fingers are pointed at Krishna, Prem, and their relatives for orchestrating the hit.
Police response was swift. City SP East Parichay Kumar, alongside Sadar ASP One Abhinav, inspected the site late into the night. Forensic teams scoured the area for evidence, while additional forces were deployed to quell rising tensions in the village. As investigations deepen, the community grapples with fear and outrage, demanding justice for the slain brothers whose lives were cut short in an act of cold-blooded vengeance.
