A significant allocation of Rs 882.87 crore has been approved for the construction of the Mata Janaki temple at Punora Dham in Sitamarhi. This project will be undertaken in three phases. The first phase involves renovating the existing temple at a cost of Rs 137.34 crore. The second phase includes developing tourism-related infrastructure with an investment of Rs 728 crore, and the third phase allocates Rs 16.62 crore for maintenance over a 10-year period. The decision was made at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The meeting saw the approval of 24 different proposals. The historical Punora Dham, known as the birthplace of Devi Sita, has immense religious and tourist importance. The construction of the Mata Janaki temple is inspired by the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The implementation of the project, from tendering to execution, is being handled by the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation, using the EPC model. The aim is to enhance tourism, facilitate a connection between Ayodhya and Punora Dham, and fulfill the desires of devotees.
