In a shocking incident from Bihar’s Jehanabad district, a young couple’s love story ended in a horrifying double suicide just days after the woman returned home from eloping. The bodies of 25-year-old Rajiv Kumar and his girlfriend were discovered under a neem tree in a field in Pran Bigha village, Murgaon panchayat, turning Holi celebrations into mourning.
The couple had been in a relationship for years. Six months ago, they fled the village together, prompting the woman’s family to file a kidnapping case against Rajiv at Hulasganj police station. Shockingly, she came back home about a week before the tragedy, while Rajiv remained on the run.
On Tuesday night around 10 PM, the woman was at home. But she vanished mysteriously shortly after. Villagers suspect Rajiv sneaked into the village and called her to meet at the field. The next morning, locals found their bodies together under the tree.
Police and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams rushed to the scene. Investigators recovered a smashed mobile phone, possibly destroyed to erase evidence, and empty containers of poisonous chemicals nearby. Initial probes point to suicide by poisoning.
Authorities await postmortem reports for confirmation. They’re also exploring if family or societal pressure played a role. The village is gripped by grief, with police recording statements from relatives and residents. This heartbreaking tale underscores the perils of forbidden love in rural India.
