Authorities in Patna, Bihar, have uncovered a scheme where old potatoes were being deceptively altered to resemble fresh ones. The Food Safety Administration intervened and seized a large consignment of potatoes that had been treated with chemicals and red soil. The fraudulent operation was discovered in the Meethapur and Meena Bazaar mandis, where vendors were making old potatoes look new, potentially endangering consumer health.
Food Safety Officer Ajay Kumar explained that potatoes were being transported from Chhattisgarh by trucks. These potatoes were being purchased by local traders and then sold in the community. The raid conducted under the leadership of Food Safety Officer Ajay Kumar, led to the seizure of nearly two trucks filled with these adulterated potatoes.
