Tragedy struck in Bihar’s Katihar district during preparations for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s program. Two workers lost their lives after being struck by a speeding SUV while they were involved in road work. The incident took place on NH 31 in the Kurseela police station area. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Hanif (48) and Mohammad Gulzar (24). The incident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. when a speeding SUV, attempting to overtake a truck, hit the two laborers working on the roadside. The impact was so severe that both workers were thrown into the air. The SUV then fled the scene. Both workers died instantly. Following the accident, other workers blocked NH 31, causing a complete traffic jam on the Purnia-Barauni route. Police and senior officials arrived at the scene to manage the situation. After the officials managed to calm the workers, the road was cleared. The highway blockade lasted for about 2 hours while the workers demanded compensation. The deceased were uncle and nephew. Police sent the bodies to Katihar for a post-mortem examination.
