The Refugee Colony in Purnia is now filled with mourning, as a family mourns the loss of their only son, Shivam Dey, a B.Tech student at Sharda University. Shivam’s suicide on August 15th has left his family devastated and searching for answers. The family is particularly critical of the university’s handling of the situation, alleging negligence and a lack of communication.
Shivam’s aunt, Reena Daksh, who lives in Delhi, rushed to the university after receiving the news. She claims that the college administration and security guards prevented her from entering. She alleges that had the university informed them earlier about Shivam’s absence from classes, the family could have intervened and possibly prevented the tragedy.
The family also accuses the college administration and police of collusion. They have filed an FIR in the Greater Noida police station, alleging that the college was only focused on collecting fees and did not care about the student’s mental state or attendance. The incident highlights the crucial need for educational institutions to prioritize student well-being and maintain open communication with parents.
