The Election Commission of India has embarked on a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar, in anticipation of the forthcoming assembly elections. This significant undertaking, which commenced on June 25th and will run until July 26th, 2025, involves extensive fieldwork by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). These officers are visiting households across all 243 assembly constituencies, collecting data and updating voter information via Enumeration Forms (EF). The primary goals of this initiative are to ensure the accuracy of the voter rolls, incorporate newly eligible voters, and remove any ineligible entries. Voters have the option to complete forms online and a mobile app will also be launched soon. Voters are also required to attach self-attested documents. The campaign is supported by SMS alerts sent to over 5.74 crore registered mobile numbers, informing voters. Political parties are also actively participating. The revised voter list is scheduled for publication on September 30, 2025. Political reactions to the initiative have been divided, with some questioning its motives, while others view it as a necessary step towards transparent and fair elections. The Election Commission urges voters to cooperate and verify their details promptly.
