In a major development shaking Bihar’s political landscape, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially registered an FIR and assumed control of the high-profile case involving the mysterious death of a NEET aspirant in Patna. The case, initially handled by local police at Chitragupt Nagar station, has now been transferred to the CBI following intense public and political pressure.
The tragedy unfolded in January when a young woman from Jehanabad, residing at Shambhu Girls Hostel in Patna’s Chitragupt Nagar area, was found dead under suspicious circumstances. She was diligently preparing for the competitive NEET exam, a dream cut short in the most heartbreaking manner. Her untimely demise sparked widespread outrage, with family members leveling serious allegations against the police and hostel management, igniting a fierce political battle between ruling and opposition parties across the state.
To address the mounting concerns, Bihar Police swiftly constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The probe took a darker turn with the postmortem report, which could not rule out sexual assault. Forensic evidence revealed traces of semen on the victim’s undergarments, prompting the SIT to collect DNA samples from relatives and several other individuals. Shockingly, no matches have been found yet, deepening the mystery.
The scandal implicated multiple Patna hospitals and drew massive street protests from enraged citizens. Political parties took to the roads, demanding justice. The victim’s family met with the Director General of Police (DGP), and just a day later, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced on social media the state government’s recommendation for a CBI inquiry.
Tensions peaked during Bihar’s ongoing budget session when Leader of Opposition Rabri Devi stunned the Legislative Council by alleging involvement of a minister’s son, accusing authorities of a cover-up. In response, Deputy CM Chaudhary challenged her to provide evidence, promising action within 24 hours. As the CBI steps in, all eyes are on whether this transfer of documents from the SIT will finally uncover the truth behind the NEET student’s tragic end.
