In a significant development in the mysterious death of a NEET aspirant in Patna, CBI investigators descended on the victim’s ancestral village in Jehanabad district on Sunday. The team conducted a thorough search of the family home, spending nearly three hours combing through the premises before leaving around 1 PM.
Sources indicate that the central agency collected several items from the house for further forensic analysis. The visit came just days after the CBI formally took over the case from Bihar Police. Family members and neighbors were grilled extensively about the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s demise.
The tragedy unfolded on January 6 when the student was found unconscious in her private hostel room in Patna’s Chitragupt Nagar. She slipped into a coma and passed away five days later in a private hospital, sparking outrage and political controversy.
Opposition parties lambasted the Nitish Kumar government, accusing it of negligence. The state swiftly handed the investigation to CBI on January 31 amid allegations of sexual assault leveled by the grieving family against hostel staff. One employee has already been arrested.
The CBI is now scrutinizing the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) preliminary report, which included DNA samples from nearly 30 individuals, including family members and associates. On Saturday, agency sleuths had visited the Shambhu Girls Hostel, questioning staff about the fateful night.
As the probe intensifies, the nation watches closely for answers in this heartbreaking case that has exposed vulnerabilities in student accommodations across Bihar.
