In a shocking case of mistaken identity, a masked assailant stormed into a home in Bihar’s Katihar district, aiming to kill a man but fatally shooting his wife instead. The incident unfolded late at night in Mohna Chandpur village under Barari police station limits, sending waves of terror through the rural community.
Sharifa Khatoon was sleeping in a separate room from her husband, Ehtesham Hussain, when the intruder entered their house. Believing her to be Ehtesham in the darkness, the attacker fired a single shot, killing her on the spot. As family members raised alarms, the gunman fled, abandoning the pistol at the scene.
Police swiftly arrived, recovering the weapon and launching a thorough investigation. Ehtesham has pointed fingers at his wife’s sister and her husband—his brother-in-law—as prime suspects, alleging a deep-seated family feud motivated the attack. He claims past disputes had already led to false accusations against him.
Katihar Superintendent of Police Shikhar Chaudhary confirmed that forensics teams are on site, collecting evidence. The pistol has been sent for ballistic analysis, and raids are underway to nab suspects. Initial probes suggest personal enmity, but no stone is being left unturned.
The village remains gripped by fear, with residents demanding better security. Local Congress leader Tauqeer Alam condemned the brutality, urging swift justice. As tensions simmer, authorities assure the public of cracking the case soon, highlighting the urgent need for vigilance in rural Bihar.
