In a heartbreaking turn of events, a bride’s dream wedding in Bhojpur district shattered moments before the jaimala ceremony. Rani Kumari, adorned with fresh mehndi and eyes full of hope, suddenly collapsed from exhaustion on her big day. What was meant to be a joyous union at a private resort turned into a nightmare when the groom and his entourage abruptly left, refusing to proceed with the marriage.

The incident unfolded on February 20 in Chhota Sasaram village under Udwantnagar block. Rani, the only daughter of small businessman Surendra Sharma from Chhotki Sanadiya village, was set to marry Jay Prakash Sharma, who works in a private company in Bangalore. Preparations had been meticulous: tilak on February 14, haldi on February 19, and the wedding at the resort with the groom’s family’s consent. Surendra had even gifted his prospective son-in-law a bike, bed, utensils, clothes, and more.

As the jaimala stage was being set, Rani began crying and screaming before fainting while the groom tried to help her up. Family members rushed her to a nearby room. Several rituals had already been completed, but the baraat departed immediately after. The groom’s family alleged Rani had pre-existing health issues and demanded treatment first, promising to reconsider later—but they returned the gifted bike and left.

Now admitted to Ara Sadar Hospital, Rani lies on a bed, repeating in despair, ‘My life is ruined. Where will I go now? What will I do?’ Her tears flow endlessly, symbolizing her broken dreams. Her mother, Basanti Devi, explained that Rani handled all household chores and market errands amid wedding frenzy, barely eating, leading to her collapse from fatigue. The doctor, RN Yadav, confirmed her blood pressure and oxygen levels were normal; it was sheer weakness causing the dizziness. She received emergency care and is under observation.

Surendra laments the lakhs spent on the wedding, with relatives still gathered, only to witness joy turn to mourning. The house, once buzzing with celebrations, is now shrouded in silence. This tragic episode highlights the fragility of arranged marriages in rural India, where one mishap can unravel years of planning and emotions.
