In a shocking incident from Bihar’s Khagaria district, a married woman with five children leaped from a railway bridge into the Sebaganthi River, sending ripples of panic through the local community. Identified as Anshu Devi, the woman worked as a secretary at a nearby primary school. The dramatic event unfolded on Saturday amid allegations of a heated confrontation linked to her alleged affair.
Eyewitnesses reported that Anshu left her slippers and a red cloth on the bridge numbered 51 before plunging into the swirling waters below. Family members claim the woman’s lover’s relatives stormed their home, subjecting her to a brutal beating over the illicit relationship. Overwhelmed by the trauma, she took this desperate step.
Anshu hails from the Chautham police station area. Her husband has been laboring in Mumbai for the past six months, leaving her to manage their two sons and three daughters alone. Just a month ago, she had traveled to Mumbai to bring their eldest daughter back to the village for her 10th-grade exams.
The tragedy ignited fury among relatives and villagers, who blocked the road near Hardiya railway cabin in protest. Police from Mansi and Chautham stations rushed to the scene, pacifying the crowd and clearing the blockade. The Mansi SHO confirmed that search operations are underway with SDRF teams deployed. Investigations continue as the community holds its breath for any sign of the missing woman.
This heartbreaking case underscores the deep societal pressures and personal agonies that can push individuals to the brink, highlighting the urgent need for better support systems in rural areas.
