In a shocking act of violence, a priest in Bihar’s Rohtas district is accused of murdering the head priest (Mahant) of a temple. The assault, which occurred early Friday morning, involved the use of a stone. The alleged perpetrator, identified as Subhash Chaubey, a resident of Bahera village, is said to have confined other individuals within the temple before fleeing the scene.

The crime took place at the Vijay Raghav Temple, located in the Gandhi Nagar area. Witnesses stated that the Mahant, Shyam Narayan Ji Maharaj, was coming down from the roof to collect milk around 8 a.m. when he was attacked from behind. He was rushed to a hospital, but tragically, he died on the way.

The temple is currently undergoing renovations. The accused reportedly used construction materials to attack the Mahant. Several monks and devotees were present during the incident. Police were alerted, and the body was taken for a post-mortem examination.

Sources indicate that the Mahant suffered critical injuries, including a severe head wound, and significant blood loss. The priest, who is now a suspect, had been seeking leave, which was denied by the Mahant. A financial disagreement, stemming from an advance payment the priest had received, also contributed to the tension. The Mahant is said to have demanded the money back and told the priest to leave. It is believed this dispute, combined with the denied leave, ignited the priest’s anger, leading to the fatal assault. The police are currently searching for the accused.
