In a significant step towards rural development, the Bihar government under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has launched a project to build Panchayat Sarkar Bhawans across the state. This initiative is aimed at realizing Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Gram Swaraj and improving governance at the grassroots level.
The Building Construction Department is spearheading this project, with plans to construct 2,600 buildings. Construction has already commenced on 2,000 buildings, and the tendering process for the remaining 400 is underway. These buildings are designed to consolidate government services and function as hubs for village administration.
These Panchayat Sarkar Bhawans will serve as secretariats at the panchayat level, offering a centralized location for various government functions. The project is a crucial step towards empowering rural communities and promoting transparency in administrative processes.
The project includes specific provisions for flood-affected areas, with larger building footprints to accommodate potential disasters. Each building will be equipped with facilities such as office spaces for elected representatives and staff, courtrooms, storage areas, meeting halls, and service centers. The buildings will also feature reception areas for citizens, residential quarters for essential personnel, and post office facilities.
This comprehensive approach is intended to improve the efficiency of government services and enhance the quality of life for rural residents.
