Patna’s political corridors are buzzing after former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi leveled explosive allegations in the tragic death of a NEET aspirant. Claiming government cover-up to shield a minister’s son, Rabri’s statements have ignited a fierce response from Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who has issued a stern ultimatum: produce evidence within 24 hours or face legal action.
The controversy erupted during a heated protest outside the Bihar Legislative Council on Thursday, coinciding with the budget session’s third day. Rabri Devi, a senior Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader, accused the Nitish Kumar government of suppressing facts in the case of the Jehanabad girl found unconscious in a Patna hostel on January 6. She succumbed 11 days later in a private hospital after days in coma.
“No district in Bihar is free from crime today,” Rabri thundered, pointing fingers at the state home minister’s silence. She alleged the case was hastily handed to CBI to bury the truth, questioning the agency’s impartiality under central control. Her bold claim implicated powerful figures, including possible involvement of a minister or his son, sparking outrage.
Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary hit back hard, dismissing the accusations as baseless politicking. “If Rabri Devi has proof, present it immediately. Otherwise, action will be taken within 24 hours—even if a minister or his son is involved,” he declared. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to women’s safety, Choudhary accused Rabri of hiding evidence to malign the administration.
The victim’s family has echoed concerns of a cover-up, prompting Bihar authorities to recommend CBI probe while a Special Investigation Team (SIT) continues groundwork. JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar slammed Rabri’s remarks as headline-grabbing tactics, reaffirming the state’s resolve against shielding criminals.
As the row intensifies, all eyes are on whether Rabri will substantiate her claims or if Choudhary’s deadline triggers repercussions. This clash underscores deepening political divides in Bihar ahead of key electoral battles.
