In a significant move to curb noise pollution and enhance road safety, Bihar’s Transport Minister Shravana Kumar announced stringent measures against unauthorized DJ vehicles during the ongoing budget session of the state legislature. The issue gained prominence when Independent MLC Vanshidhar Brijwasi raised a pointed question in the Legislative Council on Thursday, highlighting the rampant modification of commercial vehicles into blaring DJ setups despite existing bans on their operation.

Brijwasi pointed out a glaring loophole: while playing DJs is prohibited, manufacturing and selling them faces no such restriction. This has led to a proliferation of these modified vehicles, often customized to obscure license plates, posing severe risks on roads. He criticized the administration’s selective enforcement, noting that action is swift during festivals but lax during weddings and routine events, resulting in tragic accidents and loss of lives.

Supporting Brijwasi’s concerns, MLC Veerendra Narayan Yadav emphasized the human cost of noise pollution, calling it a matter of humanity. In response, Minister Kumar assured the house that within the next 15 days, a statewide campaign would inspect and seize all DJ vehicles operating without proper permissions. ‘No such vehicle will ply without authorization,’ he declared firmly.

The minister revealed that a meeting on road safety was held earlier that day, underscoring the transport department’s commitment to enforcing safety norms rigorously. He vowed to control noise pollution and eliminate these hazardous modifications. RJD MLC Abdul Bari Siddiqui echoed the sentiment, advocating a blanket ban on DJs at weddings and celebrations. This development marks a proactive step by the Bihar government towards safer streets and quieter neighborhoods.
