The festive rush for Holi is set to become a lot smoother for millions heading home to Bihar. Indian Railways has announced the launch of 21 new special trains connecting various parts of the country to key Bihar stations like Patna Junction and Pataliputra. This move addresses the perennial challenge of overcrowding and ticket shortages during festival seasons, offering a reliable and affordable travel option for migrant workers and families.
Every year, the Diwali and Holi periods see an exodus of people from urban centers back to their native villages. Train travel remains the preferred choice due to its cost-effectiveness and extensive network. However, confirmed bookings often prove elusive amid surging demand. Anticipating this, railway authorities have proactively scheduled these specials well in advance.
These trains will operate from late February through early April 2026, covering routes to and from major cities including Puri, Gondia, New Delhi, Charlapalli, and Anand Vihar Terminal. For instance, Train No. 08439 will run from Puri to Patna every Saturday starting February 28 until March 28. Its return, Train No. 08440, departs Patna for Puri every Sunday from March 1 to 29.
Other key services include Train No. 08861 from Gondia to Patna on March 2, followed by the reverse on March 3. Daily connectivity to the capital is bolstered by Train No. 03293 from Patna to New Delhi from March 5 to 15, and Train No. 03294 back from March 6 to 16. South-bound options feature Train No. 03253 from Patna to Charlapalli on Mondays and Wednesdays from March 9 to 30, with corresponding returns.
Senior DCM Abhinav Siddharth of Danapur Division emphasized comprehensive passenger facilities at crucial stations such as Dildarnagar, Buxar, Ara, Danapur, Patna, Pataliputra, Jehanabad, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Kiul, and Jhajha. Special checking staff, railway protection forces, and departmental supervisors have been deployed to ensure safety and comfort.
This initiative not only eases travel woes but also underscores Railways’ commitment to festive connectivity. Travelers are advised to book early via IRCTC to secure seats and avoid last-minute hassles. As Holi approaches, these trains promise a joyous reunion without the usual transit stress.
