In a decisive strike against corruption, the Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau’s headquarters team arrested Rakesh Kumar, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Nagar block in Gaya district, on Monday. Caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000, the officer was nabbed right inside the block chief’s chamber at the Nagar block office.
The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by Suchita Ranjan, wife of Chandbhushan Kumar from Gannu Bigaha village under Chakand police station. She alleged that despite completing work under the labor head worth Rs 3.50 lakh, the BDO was demanding a hefty bribe for releasing the payment.
Bureau officials swiftly verified the complaint, confirming the BDO’s demand through evidence. Deeming the allegations credible, they formed a trap team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Satyendra Ram. The team sprang into action, leading to the dramatic arrest as Kumar accepted the tainted cash.
Post-arrest interrogation, the accused will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna. An FIR has been registered at the Vigilance police station.
This bust underscores the bureau’s relentless campaign against graft. In 2023 so far, it’s the 16th case at Vigilance thana, with 11 red-handed arrests and recovery of over Rs 7.15 lakh in bribes. Bihar’s anti-corruption drive signals zero tolerance for public servants undermining development funds.
