The formation of the Bihar State Sanitation Workers Commission has been announced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, aiming to protect, support, and uplift sanitation workers. The commission will oversee welfare schemes, address grievances, and advise the government on related policies. The commission’s structure includes a chairperson, vice-chairperson, and five members, with representation from the woman/transgender community. This initiative intends to integrate sanitation workers into the mainstream and facilitate their social and economic development. However, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has voiced concerns, emphasizing that the immediate needs of sanitation workers—specifically, proper equipment and timely salaries—must be addressed before other initiatives. The announcement precedes the 2025 Assembly elections, with several welfare schemes recently announced by the CM.
