In a tragic series of events that has shaken Bihar’s Khagaria district, five lives were lost in three separate road accidents on Monday. The victims, all riding motorcycles or as pillion passengers, fell prey to speeding vehicles on National Highway 31.

The first mishap unfolded near Kumhar Chakki under Muffassil police station limits. A speeding truck collided head-on with a magic van, claiming the lives of two young men on the spot. Identified as Dhiraj Kumar (30) and Sanjiv Kumar (28) from Begusarai, the duo was en route to Katyanani Temple for worship when tragedy struck.

Outraged locals blocked NH-31 near Kumhar Chakki and Chaida, causing massive traffic snarls for nearly an hour. Police intervention and assurances of justice finally cleared the road.

Barely hours later, another horror struck near Chaida Durga Temple under Maheshkhunta police station. A rashly driven Scorpio SUV rammed into a motorcycle, killing teenage rider Shivam Kumar (16) and his companion Golu Kumar (18), both from Mansi block. They were returning home from Maheshkhunta market.

The third incident occurred near Sapaha, also under Maheshkhunta, where a truck crushed motorcyclist Amrish Singh (30) to death.

These back-to-back tragedies have left families devastated and sparked widespread fury. Police have registered FIRs under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash driving and overspeeding. Drivers responsible are being hunted down.

Khagaria’s roads, once again, highlight the dire need for stricter enforcement against reckless driving and better safety measures. Authorities must act swiftly to prevent such carnage.
