A horrific road accident on National Highway 27 in Bihar’s Madhubani district claimed four lives on Thursday. The collision occurred near Khopa Chowk in the Fulparas police station area, where a Haryana-registered Mahindra Scorpio smashed head-on into an oncoming truck.
Eyewitnesses described the impact as devastating, with the Scorpio left completely mangled. Preliminary investigations reveal the SUV was traveling from Darbhanga when it suddenly veered across the divider into the wrong lane, leading to the fatal crash.
Police suspect wrong-side driving as the primary cause. Officers are recording statements from the truck driver and witnesses to piece together the sequence of events. Three victims have been identified as Sanjeev Kumar, Kapil Kumar, and Vikas Kumar from Kurukshetra, Haryana. The fourth person’s identity remains unknown.
The group was reportedly on a leisure trip in Bihar. Authorities are contacting the Scorpio’s owner using its registration details. All bodies have been sent to Sadar Hospital in Madhubani for post-mortem.
Fulparas SHO Vikram Acharya confirmed the crash’s severity: one person died on the spot, while three succumbed en route to Jhanjharpur sub-divisional hospital. The truck driver sustained injuries but is stable.
Traffic on NH-27 was disrupted briefly before officials rerouted vehicles to restore normal flow. Investigations continue to determine if negligence or lane violation was involved, underscoring the persistent dangers of reckless driving on India’s highways.
This tragedy highlights the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better road infrastructure to prevent such avoidable losses.
