Saharsa, Bihar erupted with cheers from law enforcement circles on Tuesday as police arrested Rahul Singh, a notorious criminal with a Rs 25,000 bounty on his head. Singh, wanted in multiple cases including loot, Arms Act violations, and attempt to murder, had evaded capture for months in a high-stakes manhunt.
District Superintendent of Police Himanshu spearheaded an intensified operation targeting fugitives across Saharsa. ‘This arrest marks a significant victory in our ongoing campaign against hardened criminals,’ he stated, highlighting the coordinated efforts that led to Singh’s downfall.
Rahul Singh’s rap sheet is extensive, boasting over a dozen serious charges. The trigger for his most recent pursuit stemmed from a brazen attack in Mahishi police station limits. Alongside accomplices, Singh stormed a complainant’s residence, assaulted the occupants, fired shots to instill terror, and issued death threats before vanishing.
Fearing the long arm of the law, Singh frequently switched hideouts, making traditional tracking futile. In response, authorities formed a crack team under the Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer, integrating the district intelligence unit and Mahishi station personnel.
Leveraging cutting-edge technical surveillance and grassroots human intelligence, the team orchestrated a precise operation in Mahpura village under Mahishi thana. Singh, a local resident, was apprehended without incident.
Beyond the Arms Act and attempt to murder, Singh faces cases under prohibition laws and looting. Interrogations are underway to unravel his network of associates, promising further breakthroughs in curbing organized crime in the region. This arrest sends a strong message to other fugitives: no one is beyond reach.
