Patna has taken a decisive step to safeguard female students and working women across Bihar. In a comprehensive move, the state government has rolled out stringent guidelines for all girls’ hostels and lodges operating within its borders. The primary aim is to ensure registration for every such facility while prioritizing equal opportunities, respect, and uncompromised security for women.

Under these new mandates, every hostel and lodge must appoint a female warden available round-the-clock. Police verification becomes compulsory for all staff, including wardens, guards, cooks, and cleaners. To fortify security, CCTV cameras will be installed at main gates, corridors, dining areas, and throughout the premises, with footage retained for at least 30 days.

Facilities are now required to maintain adequate lighting, impeccable cleanliness, sturdy doors with robust locks, and iron grilles on all windows. Every visitor’s name, mobile number, and Aadhaar details must be logged in a dedicated register. Men’s entry into room areas is strictly prohibited. Biometric systems will track the presence of residents and staff, especially during nighttime.

For emergencies, posters displaying contact details for the 112 helpline, local police stations, women’s help desks, and Abhaya Brigade will be prominently displayed. Residents will receive training on utilizing the 112 India app’s safety features. Joint inspections by police, women’s help desks, and Abhaya Brigade will ensure ongoing compliance, with swift action against any suspicious or criminal activities.

Bihar’s administration has issued a firm warning: no leniency will be tolerated when it comes to protecting girls and women. These guidelines underscore a zero-tolerance approach, promising rigorous enforcement to create safer living environments for the state’s daughters.
