Following a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar, the Election Commission has flagged potential issues with the eligibility of around 300,000 voters. Notices have been issued to these individuals, requiring them to respond and present themselves within seven days. The investigation is ongoing, and the number of affected voters could grow as document verification progresses across all assembly constituencies.
The draft voter list, published on August 1st, features 72.4 million registered voters. The Election Commission has set a deadline of September 1st for voters to submit one of eleven specified documents as proof of eligibility. The commission announced that nearly all voters (98.2%) have already complied with the document submission. Notices are being sent this week to those who have either not provided the required documentation, submitted incorrect documents, or whose citizenship or eligibility is subject to doubt.
