Patna’s student hostels have once again become the center of a tragic controversy. A young woman preparing for the NEET exam was found unconscious in her room at a girls’ hostel in the state capital. Despite rushed medical attention at a private hospital, she succumbed to her injuries. What started as a suspected suicide has now escalated into allegations of sexual assault and murder, prompting Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to urge the central government for a CBI investigation.

Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Choudhary announced the recommendation on social media, emphasizing the need for a transparent and just probe into the case registered as FIR No. 14/26. The incident, which occurred nearly two weeks ago, has seen little progress from local police, fueling public outrage and family suspicions.

The victim hailed from Shakurabad in Jehanabad district. Her family vehemently denies the suicide narrative, claiming she was assaulted in the hostel before being silenced. An SIT led by a police inspector general was formed, with CID assistance, but the parents remain unconvinced, accusing investigators of bias.

On Friday, the grieving mother met Bihar’s DGP Vinay Kumar, only to express deeper distrust, alleging police complicity. ‘My daughter won’t get justice here,’ she lamented. Political tempers have flared, with opposition parties slamming the Nitish Kumar government for failing to protect aspiring students.

This case underscores the vulnerabilities faced by young aspirants in Bihar’s coaching hubs. As calls for a federal probe grow louder, the state awaits the Centre’s response to ensure accountability and closure for the bereaved family.
