Patna’s push towards a tech-savvy police force took a major step forward on Thursday. Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced the government’s approval for constructing a state-of-the-art building for the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) and the State Police Data Center in Rajiv Nagar police station area. The project, pegged at an estimated Rs 172.80 crore, will cover everything from the structure to furniture and basic infrastructure.

This modern facility is expected to revolutionize emergency services and law enforcement in the state. Chaudhary emphasized that robust infrastructure not only streamlines administrative tasks but also provides police personnel with a superior working environment. ‘It will strengthen law and order while enhancing emergency response capabilities,’ he stated during the announcement.

For the uninitiated, ERSS operates under India’s nationwide single emergency number 112, designed to deliver rapid assistance in crises. The dedicated center will handle incoming emergency calls and messages efficiently, ensuring quicker response times.

This approval aligns with Bihar’s broader initiative under the NDA government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to modernize police facilities. Recent nods include a new building for the Police Officers Mess (IPS Mess) in Patna, a Superintendent of Police office in East Champaran, a reserved office and armory in Dihri Police Centre, Rohtas, and a 200-bed modern barrack for women police personnel in Lakhisarai Police Centre.

As Bihar invests heavily in its police modernization drive, these developments signal a commitment to safer streets and faster emergency aid for citizens. The project is poised to set a benchmark for other states in leveraging technology for public safety.
