Patna, January 30: The three-day inter-college sports and cultural extravaganza at Bihar Agricultural University in Sabour drew to a thrilling close on Friday. Over 503 athletes from 11 teams across 10 colleges—240 women and 263 men—competed fiercely in a wide array of sports and cultural events, showcasing exemplary sportsmanship throughout.
This annual mega-event, one of the largest of its kind, unfolded without a hitch, highlighting the university’s commitment to holistic student development. Top performers earned the golden opportunity to represent the university at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) national games in New Delhi.
In the postgraduate category, Bihar Agricultural College Sabour dominated with 60 points, clinching 8 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze medals to claim the overall championship. Their undergraduate counterparts secured second place with 48 points, including 5 golds, 5 silvers, and 4 bronzes. Ankita from the College of Agricultural Biotechnology, Sabour, was named the best female athlete, while Pratap Kumar from the Agricultural Engineering College, Ara, took the men’s honor.
Final day highlights included badminton where Dr. Kalam Agricultural College, Kishanganj, won the girls’ category, with Sabour as runners-up; Sabour’s postgraduates triumphed in the boys’ event. Table tennis saw Dr. Kalam College victorious in girls’ singles against Mandan Bharti College, Agwanpur, Saharsa, while Sabour postgrads topped the boys’. Volleyball men’s went to Mandan Bharti, Kabaddi girls’ to Veer Kunwar Singh College, Dumraon, and Kabaddi boys’ back to Sabour.
Cultural competitions were equally vibrant, with Sabour postgraduates as overall champions and undergraduates as runners-up. Ali Asaba shone as the best performer. Group dance and song events followed suit, with Sabour leading the pack.
At the closing ceremony, winners received medals, trophies, and certificates amid cheers. Student Welfare Director Dr. Shweta Shambhavi praised the event for fostering discipline, dedication, and confidence, wishing participants bright futures. University dignitaries, including deans, directors, and principals, graced the occasion.
