In a fiery display of public discontent, Congress workers in Bhopal took to the streets on Wednesday, rallying against the latest surge in domestic and commercial gas cylinder prices. The demonstration at Roshanpura Chowk saw hundreds of party members venting their frustration over escalating inflation under the central government’s watch.
Chanting slogans and brandishing placards, the protesters symbolically dubbed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘Doctor’ for allegedly administering repeated ‘doses’ of inflation to the common man. Women activists, forming a significant part of the crowd, highlighted how skyrocketing LPG rates are crippling household budgets. ‘The kitchen is the heart of every home, and these price hikes have shattered our finances,’ one participant lamented.
District Congress Committee President Praveen Saxena led the charge, pointing out that domestic gas cylinders, which cost around Rs 400 in 2014, now retail for nearly Rs 920. The recent Rs 60 increase for households and Rs 115 for commercial cylinders has hit small traders and middle-class families hardest, he asserted.
Saxena accused the BJP-led government of fueling inflation through flawed policies, directly burdening ordinary citizens. The party warned of larger agitations if prices aren’t rolled back, signaling a broader campaign against economic hardships. As the protest dispersed, the message was clear: the Congress is ready to amplify its fight for affordable essentials.
