Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has initiated a high-powered committee to oversee and expedite relief and rescue operations in flood-affected areas of the state. This committee, comprised of senior officers from vital departments, will be stationed in the affected districts, including Amritsar. The Chief Minister emphasized the state’s commitment to supporting the flood victims, urging immediate action and the full implementation of the committee’s directives by local officials. He also tasked the Chief Secretary with assessing the situation firsthand and ensuring the effective deployment of government resources. The aim is to enhance the speed and efficiency of relief efforts, thereby providing rapid assistance to those in need. The state is facing significant challenges due to heavy water inflows, with the Ravi River experiencing record-breaking levels, surpassing previous flood records. The government has contacted neighboring states to manage water flow. The Indian Army is collaborating with the administration in rescue operations, supported by advanced technology. The NDRF has deployed 17 teams to provide essential aid, with continuous efforts focused on rescuing individuals, damage assessment, and disease prevention. A coordinated multi-departmental effort is underway to complete relief and rescue operations. The focus includes repairing river breaches, providing medical support, and preventing the spread of disease. Measures include ensuring clean water access, conducting water quality testing, and providing food supplies. Pumping operations are underway to remove floodwater. Detailed damage assessments are being conducted for infrastructure. Medical relief will be available through various channels, including mobile medical units. Dedicated teams will tackle dengue larva and educate the public about preventive measures. Veterinary teams will care for affected livestock, while sanitation drives and fogging operations will be implemented to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.
