Bengaluru’s commitment to cleanliness has been underscored by a highly successful eight-hour mega drive organized by the Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC). The operation yielded an impressive 599 tonnes of collected waste, with Sarvagnanagar Assembly Constituency earning the distinction of being the cleanest zone and receiving a ₹1 lakh prize.
BNCC Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar led the massive cleanup, which targeted approximately 95 km of roads across seven administrative divisions, including Hebbal, Pulikeshinagar, Sarvagnanagar, Yelahanka, Byatarayanapura, Dasarahalli, and Rajarajeshwari Nagar.
Designed as an incentive program, the awards recognized outstanding performance among civic divisions. The selection process involved detailed inspections and a robust assessment mechanism. Constituencies were rated on the thoroughness and impact of their cleaning operations, with transparency ensured through collaboration with Chief Engineers, RWAs, and local community groups.
The drive’s mandate was extensive, covering the removal of construction debris, silt, and vegetation, as well as the comprehensive cleaning of urban infrastructure like roads, pathways, medians, green spaces, and drainage networks.
A substantial workforce of over 4,200 pourakarmikas and volunteers was mobilized for this effort. The collected waste was meticulously categorized: 275 tons of construction debris, 210 tons of dry waste, 86 tons from neglected open plots, and 28 tons of discarded domestic items from footpaths.
In a formal acknowledgment of achievements, Sarvagnanagar was awarded ₹1,00,000. Byatarayanapura secured the second prize of ₹50,000, and Yelahanka received the third prize of ₹25,000. Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar reiterated the campaign’s objectives: to create a cleaner city and to foster greater public engagement in preserving its hygiene.
