In a chilling display of road rage, a Bengaluru SUV driver sped off with a man clinging desperately to the vehicle’s bonnet, dragging him for several meters. The incident, which unfolded on a busy city road, has led to an attempted murder charge against the driver identified as Suresh.
The Halasuru police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The victim, 36-year-old Nanjunda, a driver and flower trader from Thyagarajanagar, was returning from Hoskote with flowers alongside his nephew Manoj K., who was behind the wheel.
As they signaled to turn right at General K.S. Thimmaiah Circle after Trinity Junction, an SUV tailing them began honking incessantly. Nanjunda asked the driver to stop, but the response was aggressive. The SUV overtook rashly, with the driver hurling abuses from inside.
At a signal on CB Road near HAL Airport Road, Nanjunda approached the SUV to confront the driver about the profanity and asked him to pull over. In a sudden move, Suresh accelerated sharply. Fearing for his life, Nanjunda jumped onto the bonnet, gripping the windshield wiper.
Witnesses recounted the horrifying scene as the SUV raced from CB Road Junction to ASC Centre College, ignoring Nanjunda’s screams. Onlookers shouted for the driver to stop, but he pressed on until other vehicles, including cabs, blocked his path. An angry crowd apprehended Suresh and reprimanded him before police arrived.
Authorities are investigating the matter thoroughly, reviewing CCTV footage and witness statements. This incident highlights the growing menace of road rage in Bengaluru, urging stricter enforcement and public awareness to prevent such life-threatening episodes.
