In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Assam Rifles troops executed two swift operations in Mizoram’s Champhai district on Friday, seizing narcotics valued at over Rs 7.28 crore. The hauls included highly potent methamphetamine tablets and heroin, leading to the arrest of two suspects.

Acting on credible intelligence about narcotic smuggling, a patrol in the Ngur area intercepted a China-made Kenbo bike. A thorough search uncovered 2.2 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets, estimated at Rs 6.6 crore in the international market. The rider, identified as Lalh mangaihuala, was detained immediately.

The contraband and suspect were handed over to the Champhai Customs and Narcotics Department for further investigation and legal proceedings. This operation underscores the relentless efforts to curb cross-border smuggling along the India-Myanmar frontier.

In a separate raid in the Jote area, alert personnel stopped a suspicious vehicle. Inside, they found 80.8 grams of heroin worth Rs 68.25 lakh. The driver, Lal Thanpuia, a known drug peddler, was apprehended along with the vehicle.

Once again, the seized items were transferred to local authorities for detailed probes. These back-to-back successes highlight Assam Rifles’ unwavering commitment to securing the border and fostering a drug-free region.

Meanwhile, in Manipur, another team foiled an attempt to smuggle explosives. At a checkpost, miscreants abandoned their Bolero vehicle and fled, but two were caught after a chase. Recovered items included 30 gelatin sticks, 20 detonators, safety fuses, flexible wires, and Rs 1 lakh in cash.

Experts note that such explosives are commonly used in crafting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for large-scale destruction. The arrests and seizures prevent potential threats to public safety in the Northeast.

Assam Rifles continues to play a pivotal role in countering narcotics and arms trafficking, contributing significantly to national security. Official statements reaffirm their dedication to eliminating drug menace and ensuring peace along vulnerable borders.
