In a major boost to Assam’s rail infrastructure, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the imminent launch of the state’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train. This development promises to revolutionize overnight travel connectivity in the Northeast.
Speaking at a public event, Sarma highlighted how the semi-high-speed train will cut travel time significantly between key cities. The Vande Bharat Sleeper, known for its modern amenities and speed, will connect Guwahati with major destinations, easing congestion on existing routes.
The state government has been aggressively pushing for better rail links to spur economic growth. ‘This is just the beginning,’ Sarma said. ‘More Vande Bharat trains will follow, linking Assam to the rest of India seamlessly.’
Rail enthusiasts and commuters alike have welcomed the news. Current overnight trains often face delays and lack comfort, making the Vande Bharat a game-changer. Equipped with AC 3-tier and 2-tier coaches, it will offer world-class facilities including onboard entertainment and Wi-Fi.
Assam’s rail network has seen rapid expansion under the current administration. From electrification projects to new lines, investments are pouring in. The Northeast Frontier Railway is working overtime to ensure the train hits the tracks within months.
This launch aligns with the national push for indigenous train manufacturing. Vande Bharat trains, entirely made in India, symbolize self-reliance in rail technology. For Assam, it means faster access to markets, jobs, and opportunities.
Local businesses anticipate a surge in tourism and trade. Guwahati’s connectivity to Delhi, Bengaluru, and other metros will improve dramatically. Sarma emphasized that enhanced rail links are crucial for the state’s vision of becoming an economic powerhouse.
Challenges remain, including track upgrades and station modernizations. However, with central government support, Assam is poised for a rail renaissance. Commuters can look forward to smoother, faster journeys ahead.
