In a decisive move against illegal medical practices, Assam Police have arrested a notorious quack doctor operating in Cachar district. The crackdown highlights the growing menace of unqualified practitioners endangering public health across the state.

The suspect, identified as a self-proclaimed healer with no formal medical qualifications, was running an unauthorized clinic in the heart of Cachar. Local residents had long complained about his dubious treatments, which allegedly led to several health complications. Acting on credible intelligence and multiple FIRs, a team from the local police station raided the premises late last night.

During the operation, authorities seized a cache of expired medicines, fake prescription pads, and substandard medical equipment. The quack was caught red-handed attending to patients, including vulnerable children and elderly individuals seeking affordable care. Preliminary investigations reveal he had been practicing for over five years, luring patients with promises of miracle cures at throwaway prices.

This arrest is part of a broader statewide initiative launched by Assam Police to eradicate illegal medical practices. Director General of Police GP Singh emphasized that such unqualified practitioners pose a severe threat to public safety, often prescribing harmful drugs without proper diagnosis. ‘We will not tolerate anyone playing with lives for profit,’ he stated in a recent press briefing.

Health experts applaud the action, noting that quackery contributes to antimicrobial resistance and preventable deaths in rural areas. The Cachar Superintendent of Police confirmed that further inquiries are underway to identify the doctor’s network and any accomplices. Cases have been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Assam Medical Practitioners’ Act.

Community leaders in Cachar have welcomed the development, urging continued vigilance. ‘This sends a strong message to all those exploiting the poor’s desperation,’ said a local activist. As investigations deepen, the police aim to dismantle similar setups across the district, ensuring access to genuine healthcare for all residents.
