Guwahati, March 1 – Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita unleashed a scathing attack on the Congress party on Sunday, accusing it of never truly fading from Assam’s political scene despite repeated electoral defeats. He claimed the opposition continues to position itself as the protector of minority interests, particularly among the Muslim community.

“Congress has always lingered in Assam’s political landscape,” Margherita stated, emphasizing the party’s persistent efforts to maintain relevance. However, he sharply criticized their strategy, alleging it revolves around divisive vote-bank politics rather than genuine development or social harmony.

For decades, Congress leaders have exploited minorities as mere vote banks, making hollow promises while keeping them economically and politically backward, the minister charged. Assam’s people, now politically awakened, can clearly see through what he termed the ‘Congress’s politics of appeasement.’

In contrast, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, the BJP government has prioritized development, ensuring welfare schemes reach all sections of society without discrimination. Margherita highlighted improvements in law and order, infrastructure, and welfare measures for tribal communities, which have earned widespread public support.

He accused Congress of resorting to inflammatory statements and unnecessary political rhetoric to regain lost ground, especially as elections approach. “Whenever polls near, Congress suddenly becomes vocal, making emotional and misleading claims to stay relevant,” he said.

The minister expressed confidence that Assam’s voters will reject Congress’s outdated divisive tactics and reaffirm their trust in BJP’s vision of inclusive progress, stability, and development. “Assam’s future lies in unity and growth, not division,” he concluded.
