Assam Election Fee pronounces polling to 80 civic forums on March 6, depending on March 9

GUWAHATI: The State Election Fee, Assam on Wednesday introduced that polling to 80 municipal forums around the state can be hung on March 6.

Addressing a press convention, State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar mentioned the polling can be performed via digital balloting machines (EVMs) for the primary time within the historical past of civic elections in Assam.

The final date for submitting nominations has been fastened on February 15 and scrutiny of packages can be executed on February 17, he mentioned. “The polling will happen on March 6 and the counting can be hung on March 9. The final date for withdrawal of candidature is February 20,” Kumar mentioned.

There are 977 wards or seats within the 80 municipal forums. “The polling will happen at 2,054 cubicles. We imagine that 20,000-25,000 govt staffers can be deployed in engaging in all the election workout. This can be along with police workforce to be taken with keeping up the legislation and order scenario right through the election,” Kumar mentioned.

He mentioned the election to Silchar Municipal Board may not be performed now because the subject is sub judice.
