Guwahati, March 8 – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged voters on Sunday to back the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), highlighting the party’s unwavering commitment to empowering women across the state. In a post on X, Sarma emphasized that a single vote holds the power to transform families and amplify women’s voices in society.
Stressing the importance of voter participation in democracy, the Chief Minister stated that every vote can reshape the narrative of households. He pointed out that BJP’s policies in Assam have consistently prioritized strengthening ‘Nari Shakti’ or women’s power. ‘BJP for Assam’ has been driven by this core objective, reflected in every initiative undertaken by the government.
Sarma assured that the administration remains resolute in delivering benefits to women through development programs and welfare schemes in the coming years. Ahead of assembly elections, he called on voters to make informed choices: ‘Choose wisely, choose BJP.’
Since assuming power, the BJP-led government has launched several women-centric schemes aimed at bolstering financial security and fostering entrepreneurship. The flagship ‘Orunodoi’ program provides direct cash transfers of Rs 1,250 monthly to women from economically weaker families, currently benefiting over 19 lakh recipients. This initiative ensures financial aid reaches families via women, enhancing their role in household decisions and access to essentials.
Additionally, the Chief Minister’s Women Entrepreneurship Mission (MMUA) offers startup capital and institutional support to rural women, targeting 12 lakh beneficiaries to spark entrepreneurial ventures. The ‘Lakhpati Baideo’ scheme empowers Self-Help Group (SHG) women with phased financial aid: Rs 10,000 in year one, Rs 25,000 in year two, and Rs 50,000 in year three, enabling them to establish sustainable micro-enterprises and boost incomes.
Political analysts note that women voters are emerging as a decisive force in Assam, prompting major parties to emphasize women-focused policies. The BJP leadership has repeatedly underscored women’s role in social and economic progress, prominently featuring government initiatives in pre-election outreach campaigns.
