Panic gripped Amritsar on Friday after multiple schools and the Shatabdi Express train received chilling bomb threat emails. The threats, which warned of explosions at school premises and aboard the popular train, prompted immediate security lockdowns across the city.
Local police sprang into action, deploying bomb disposal squads to scour school campuses thoroughly. Students were evacuated safely, and parents rushed to pick up their children, leading to chaotic scenes outside educational institutions. ‘We are treating this with utmost seriousness,’ a senior police officer stated, as cyber experts traced the email origins.
This isn’t the first such incident in Amritsar. Previous threats to schools have mostly turned out to be hoaxes, but authorities leave no stone unturned. Similar false alarms have hit Punjab cities like Chandigarh, Jalandhar, and Patiala, targeting schools, hospitals, and government buildings, straining security resources and heightening public anxiety.
Despite the pattern of fakes, officials emphasize vigilance. The cyber cell is working overtime to identify the perpetrators, while appeals urge citizens to report suspicious activities and ignore rumors. As investigations continue, Amritsar’s administration vows to prioritize child safety and public tranquility amid these recurring scares.
