With former US President Donald Trump’s peace efforts proving unsuccessful in the Russia-Ukraine war, the international community is increasingly looking to PM Modi for leadership. Both Ukrainian President Zelensky and leaders within the European Union are looking to India for a resolution. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit further cemented this idea. India could be the key to a peaceful resolution.

During a meeting in Paris, European leaders discussed peace in Ukraine with Zelensky. At the same time, the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission spoke with PM Modi. The EU has acknowledged India’s important role in bringing about peace. They welcomed the ongoing support for Ukrainian President Zelensky. The EU noted that the conflict will have global consequences, including on economic stability.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister met with India’s Foreign Minister, with both sides emphasizing the need for a quick end to the conflict and the need for lasting peace.

PM Modi has spoken with both Vladimir Putin and Zelensky, addressing the desire to bring the conflict to an end. The SCO meeting also saw the two leaders meet.

India has taken a balanced approach by not publicly condemning Russia’s actions. Instead, it calls for direct dialogue between Russia and Ukraine. PM Modi has also stated that there is no place for conflict on the battlefield.

India has retained its relationship with Russia, despite the pressure from the West. PM Modi has avoided aggressive rhetoric and has carefully guarded its strategic partnership.

PM Modi has shown his commitment to peace efforts. India has increased its imports of Russian oil. Also, India has provided humanitarian aid, including medical supplies, equipment, and other forms of assistance to the country.
