Ajnala protest: Punjab DGP stated demonstrators used Guru Granth Sahib as a protect to assault police

CHANDIGARH: An afternoon after supporters of a preacher and Professional-Khalistani sympathiser Amritpal Singh stormed a police station, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Friday stated the demonstrators had used the holy Guru Granth Sahib as a protect and attacked police team of workers in a cowardly method, leaving six of them injured together with the Superintendent of Police Jugraj Singh. 

Jugraj Singh is a former nationwide hockey participant. He stated strict motion can be taken in opposition to the protesters who attacked policemen at Ajnala police station.

Hours after Lovepreet Singh walked loose from Amritsar central prison, Yadav stated, “In spite of giving an assurance of a calm demonstration, the protesters attacked the police team of workers with sharp-edged guns. The video pictures of the incident is being analysed. The protesters attacked the police cowardly beneath the garb of Guru Granth Sahib. Police acted with utmost restraint because of the maryada (sanctity) of the holy Guru Granth Sahib and preserved it. The police will have opened hearth, resulting in extra problems.  Six police team of workers had been injured within the incident together with Superintendent of Police Jugraj Sing. He were given 11 stitches.”

“As soon as the injured police team of workers is have compatibility to speak, their statements can be recorded and felony motion can be taken accordingly,” Yadav added. 

He stated the police had been confident of a calm protest via Amritpal and his supporters however they took the alibi of Guru Granth Sahib to damage barricades.

Amritpal Singh and his supporters had introduced a car wearing a duplicate of the Guru Granth Sahib for containing “amrit sanchar” (a Sikh rite) on the police station.
