The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced a series of nationwide protests against the Waqf Act. These protests will involve public awareness campaigns, meetings, and extensive use of social media. A key element of the initial phase will be special sermons delivered in mosques on September 19th (Juma), focusing on the significance of Waqf and the ramifications of the recently enacted Waqf Amendment Act. Prayers will be offered for the protection of Waqf properties. A significant demonstration is scheduled for October 11th at Jantar-Mantar in Delhi, with planned arrests following the protest.
As part of the protest, Muslims are encouraged to close their businesses and offices between 8 am and 2 pm on October 3rd, with exemptions for medical stores. A major rally is planned for November 16th at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, aiming for widespread participation from across the country. The event will feature prominent speakers, including political figures, civil society representatives, and minority leaders. Educational materials, including pamphlets in multiple languages, will be distributed to highlight opposition to the Waqf Amendment Act.
Press conferences will be conducted in Delhi and all state capitals, bringing together board members, minority group representatives, and civil society figures. Round table discussions are planned for major cities, engaging non-Muslims, political leaders, civil society leaders, and minority representatives. Joint sessions with religious leaders of various faiths will address the protection of Waqf properties and institutions. A comprehensive social media campaign will be launched, featuring weekly video clips on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Telegram. These clips will include speeches by board leadership and regional coordinators.
Efforts are underway to release video content in multiple regional languages. Planned activities include marches in Delhi and state capitals, covering 3-5 kilometers, with participants carrying placards and banners. These peaceful marches will conclude with the submission of memorandums to the President and Governors, with the march dates contingent upon the Supreme Court’s interim decision. A delegation of board and Muslim organization officials will meet with Chief Ministers on October 16 to submit a memorandum. The Board chairman will send a letter to all Waqf trustees, which will be distributed by board members. From November 1st to November 8th, a campaign to improve Waqf properties will be implemented, including the formation of local teams of youth and lawyers to help trustees with document verification and provide expert guidance. Training workshops will be conducted at the central and state levels to prepare lawyers and volunteers.
