The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has approached the Supreme Court, requesting a stay on the government’s ‘Umeed’ portal. The Board argues that the portal’s operation should be suspended until the ongoing legal challenges to the Waqf Act 2025 are resolved. According to the Board, the government’s move is unlawful and a violation of court proceedings. The Umeed portal was launched on June 6th, mandating the registration of Waqf properties, a move the Board believes is putting undue pressure on the caretakers. The AIMPLB has also pointed out several legal and constitutional issues associated with the portal, emphasizing that the Waqf Act 2025 is already under review by the Supreme Court and faces widespread opposition.
