In a bold move to tackle one of Ahmedabad’s notorious traffic bottlenecks, the Pirana Junction has been transformed into a signal-free zone. This bustling intersection, long plagued by severe congestion exacerbated by ongoing bridge construction, now breathes easier thanks to innovative traffic management by the Ahmedabad Traffic Police.
The new system shuts down the cut from Pirana People’s Road, redirecting vehicles to a U-turn approximately 100 meters ahead on Narol-Sarkhej Road. This seamless rerouting allows traffic to flow uninterrupted, dramatically reducing wait times and snarls.
Local residents are jubilant. Sajid, a daily commuter, shared, ‘For years, this spot was a daily nightmare, wasting precious time and fuel. The diversion has brought immense relief.’ Echoing his sentiments, Sachin Desani praised the setup: ‘Jams were routine here, but the U-turn 100 meters ahead has smoothed everything out.’
This experiment not only accelerates bridge construction but also saves commuters time and resources. Traffic DCP Naresh Kanjaria explained, ‘By closing the junction cut, we’ve enabled orderly vehicle movement, slashing congestion significantly.’
Buoyed by success, authorities plan to replicate the Pirana model across key city roads in phases. Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s guidance, the administration is pushing elevated corridors and bridges to eliminate jams and boost rapid transit. This tech-savvy approach promises lasting relief for Ahmedabad’s drivers.
