In a major breakthrough, Ahmedabad Crime Branch has cracked a high-value burglary case in the city’s Satellite area, recovering stolen goods worth nearly Rs 1.5 crore and arresting two men. The theft occurred at Manekbagh Society between January 11 and 16, when a doctor’s family had locked their home and left for the Uttarayan festival celebrations.
The burglars exploited the family’s absence to break in and make off with cash and jewelry. Following the complaint, Crime Branch launched a meticulous investigation, forming multiple teams to scour over 200 CCTV footages from nearby areas. Technical surveillance and intelligence inputs led to the identification of the culprits.
The arrested duo, Kamlesh alias Guggu Parmar from Chandkheda and Mehul Parmar from Shahpur, both originally from Banaskantha district, were nabbed with the loot. Kamlesh is a habitual offender with at least 10 prior cases of house-breaking and theft registered against him across various police stations in Ahmedabad and beyond.
Police revealed that the accused targeted locked homes during festivals. The recovered items include Rs 45 lakh in cash, gold jewelry valued at Rs 1.01 crore, silver ornaments worth Rs 50,000, and diamond jewelry, totaling around Rs 1.5 crore. Legal proceedings under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) are underway.
Investigators are now probing if these men are linked to similar thefts reported elsewhere in the city, underscoring the ongoing challenge of festival-season burglaries in urban Gujarat.
