Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the lone survivor of the AI-171 plane crash in Ahmedabad, described his incredible survival story. The survivor, who had just met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recounted the disaster. His seat, 11-A, was located in a section of the plane that crashed on the ground floor of a building, which allowed him to escape. He unbuckled his seatbelt and exited the burning aircraft, suffering burns to his left hand. He recalled seeing the bodies of fellow passengers and crew. “The portion I was sitting in landed on the ground floor and there was some space,” he stated, adding, “I don’t know how I survived.” He described how he initially thought he was going to die before finding himself alive and escaping the wreckage. He also mentioned the plane experiencing a momentary stall before the crash. The aircraft, a Boeing 787-8, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad International Airport, bound for London Gatwick. The flight, which occurred on June 12, 2025, carried 241 people, all of whom perished except for Ramesh. The plane crashed into a resident doctors’ hostel near the airport. The flight was piloted by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar. Air Traffic Control received a Mayday call from the aircraft before losing contact.
