In a remarkable achievement for rural education, Adani Vidya Mandir in Surguja district has been crowned the ‘Clean and Green School of the District’ under the central government’s Green and Clean School initiative. After rigorous inspections of over 2,365 schools, this institution stood out by securing the top spot and earning a prestigious 5-star rating.

The award was presented by Chhattisgarh’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma during the 77th Republic Day celebrations. The event saw the presence of District Collector Ajit Vasant, Rajesh Agarwal, and the District Education Officer, among other dignitaries. Dr. T.L. Verma, Vice Principal of the school, received the honor on behalf of the institution.

Inspections highlighted perfect scores in handwashing facilities and Mission LiFE implementation. The school scored 95.24% in maintenance, 90% in behavior-based hygiene practices, 90.91% in safe drinking water systems, and 85.19% in toilet facilities—making it the undisputed leader in the district.

Over the past two years, the campus has been transformed with a pure drinking water system, rainwater harvesting, an 80 KVA solar plant, a kitchen garden, and spotless toilets. Regular health check-ups, counseling sessions, and handwashing campaigns have created a safe, clean, and eco-friendly environment. Students’ active involvement has been key to these successes.

Serving 1,040 students, Adani Vidya Mandir is the only CBSE-affiliated school within a 35 km radius and the sole NABET-certified school in Chhattisgarh. NABET, under the Quality Council of India, recognizes excellence in educational quality.

The school’s breakfast and mid-day meal programs are managed by the local MUBSS women’s self-help group, involving over 250 women. Seventeen members prepare nutritious meals daily for nearly 1,000 children, featuring seasonal fruits, milk-Horlicks for breakfast, and varied menus like daliya, poha, boiled chickpeas, dal, rice, roti, vegetables, kabuli chana, and soyabean chunks. This initiative ensures balanced nutrition while providing sustainable livelihoods.

Dr. T.L. Verma emphasized that this accolade reflects the collective efforts of teachers, students, and staff. Creating a secure, hygienic, and inspiring learning space remains the school’s top priority, fueling further enthusiasm across the community.
