New Delhi, January 24: In a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi state president Saurabh Bharadwaj accused the ruling government of weaponizing police and investigative agencies to stifle dissent and create an atmosphere of fear across India.

Bharadwaj painted a grim picture of the nation transforming into a ‘police state,’ where ordinary citizens hesitate to voice truths for fear of reprisal. Speaking out on Saturday via social media, he shared a chilling video from Varanasi’s iconic Manikarnika Ghat, highlighting the dilapidated state of the site.

Local residents, he claimed, shy away from speaking to the media about the ghat’s poor condition. As soon as someone attempts to comment, undercover intelligence officers in plain clothes begin recording them, instilling widespread terror.

“This is a dangerous assault on democracy,” Bharadwaj declared. He alleged the government deploys these forces to dodge criticism and tough questions, systematically undermining India’s democratic fabric.

Drawing parallels to other incidents, he referenced the suspicious death of engineer Yuvraj in Noida. While police failed to save the young man, they are now allegedly pressuring eyewitnesses to alter statements in the government’s favor. Bharadwaj called this a blatant mockery of justice.

He also spotlighted Sambhal, where a judge was abruptly transferred after ordering an FIR against a notorious police officer portrayed as the BJP’s ‘poster boy.’ Bharadwaj charged that such officers operate above the law, with full impunity to intimidate, loot, and harass the public.

These patterns, he warned, signal a crumbling rule of law, replaced by governance through intimidation—a direct betrayal of democratic principles. As public outrage grows, Bharadwaj urged citizens to resist this slide into authoritarianism.
